Adopting from the Humane Society of Atlantic County

If you are interested in adopting from us there are a few things you should know.

If you currently have an animal at home it is strongly recommended that you bring your pet in to meet with the animal you are planning to adopt and will be a requirement for most adoptions done here at our facility. It is very stressful for humans and pets when things don't work out after the new pet has arrived.

In order for us to be able to adopt an animal to you, we will need to have you bring a valid state issued I.D. and documentation about your residence. If you rent, we must see a lease agreement showing that pets are allowed on the property. If you own your home, we must see proof of ownership such as a tax bill, deed, or mortgage coupon.

We accept cash, check, and credit cards. Links to the downloadable pre-adoption forms are provided below. Please fill out your adoption form completely as any incomplete forms will only delay the process further.

If you have adopted from us recently or in the past and would like to tell us how we are doing, please fill out our online adoption survey. The Humane Society of Atlantic County is always looking for ways to improve and appreciates all the feedback we can get !

Shelter Outreach Program

The Humane Society of Atlantic County is committed to reducing unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable pets due to animal over population.

Our Shelter Outreach Program takes in hundreds of dogs from over-crowded shelters that had little to no chance of adoption and brings them here with the intention of placing them in loving, caring homes.

Once here, the animals are screened for health and temperament issues. Once treated and cleared for adoption, dogs and puppies are placed up for adoption where eventually they will be placed into a great new home! Some of these animals are from other parts of New Jersey and some can come from as far away as Georgia.

Through aggressive spay and neuter programs, we have reduced the overpopulation dogs in our area. This gives us a better chance to reach out to many of these over-crowded shelters and extend a helping hand. We are very much thrilled to offer this program and continue to see growing participation in it each year.

On average, more than half of our dogs and puppies were saved from other shelters due to them being far too over-crowded. With your continued support, we will be able to save even more lives this year and going forward into the future!
